EAA announces partnership with 1% for the Planet

New York, NY, 7/26/12-The Environment Action Association (EAA) is a new nonprofit partner of 1% for the Planet, an alliance of over 1,380 member companies in 43 countries that give one percent of revenues to environmental causes.

The EAA is now eligible to receive donations from 1% member companies, placing them among a diverse, global network of environmental organizations.  1% member businesses fuel this non-profit network through their annual contributions, which totaled over $22 million in 2010.  Partnership with 1% greatly expands the potential pool of funding to which EAA can look to for support.

Newly approved Environment Action Association contributes to a healthier planet by carrying out its mission to empower, unite people in communities to protect and preserve the environment.

Over 2,300 non-profits worldwide are included in the 1% network, and over $70 million has been funneled to its nonprofit partners to date.  "The intent of 1% for the Planet is to help fund these diverse environmental organizations so that collectively they can be a more powerful force in solving the world’s problems," explains Yvon Chouinard, founder of 1% for the Planet.

"We are thrilled to be a part of 1% for the Planet. Here at EAA, we really give it our all working to help bring about a more sustainable future for our children and our communities. We strongly believe that 1% of support from like-minded businesses will really complete our efforts," says Soo Greenstein, Manager of Environment Action Association.

Interview! Meet one of our friends!

Meet Haiyao (Hazel) Zheng, a Curtis High School student, who has always been interested in environmental issues. She volunteered with the EAA for various projects including plating trees in NYC.

We took some time to sit down with Hazel and asked about her experience with volunteering for EAA. And here is what she has to say!

Q. Were you interested in environmental issues and volunteering before?
A.  Yes. The environmental issue that concerns me the most is tree quality in the city. I’ve had volunteer experience with EAA by helping them plant trees.

Q. Which topic is the most interesting to you and why?
A. Recycling is the most interesting topic to me because it saves resources and has a significant impact on our lives.

Q. For that, what do you do in your daily life? (Please share your example.)
A. I organize unused papers and water bottles for recycling.

Q. Volunteering is one way to help save the environment. After volunteering, do you feel that your life is different than before.
A. Yes. After volunteering, I found my life to be different than before, because I learned a lot of interesting information that I can apply to my everyday activities.

Q. Any comments to encourage others to volunteer with EAA?
A. Volunteering with EAA is a great way to learn about how to save the environment, while at the same time giving back to the community. They gave me the opportunity to enrich myself and my community. The feeling of satisfaction that I get from volunteering with EAA is by far one of the best I’ve felt in a long time.

EAA’ s Second Save the Earth in Your Hands event !!

This past Saturday, July 21st, EAA hosted its second annual hand-painting activity in Central Park. At the event, park visitors had the opportunity to use their hands to paint a banner with the words, “Save the Earth in Your Hands!” Children and adults from all over the world participated in the activity ? even a newborn baby and a dog as well! In addition, participants could also take part in an environmental trivia game, teaching them various environmental conservation tips and facts. Overall, it was a blast!

Also, we truly appreciate all the volunteers that helped make this event possible- they helped us fetch water for cleaning, helped us encourage people to participate.
We believe that activities like this are a great way to spread environmental awareness in a fun, creative way. So that’s why we hope you’ll join us again in the future!
